Successful grant writing involves advance planning and preparation. It takes time to coordinate planning and research, organize, write and package a proposal, submit a proposal to the funder, and follow-up. This webinar will aim to educate graduate students, early career, and full time professionals about grant writing opportunities in biomedical engineering (BME) and will provide tips for soliciting and preparing BME grants. It will also cover how to become involved in the grant review process. The webinar will feature a presentation from the National Science Foundation (NSF) highlighting NSF BME programs, examples of programs funded by NSF, tips for preparing a successful NSF program, and information about I-Corps and other NSF portfolio programs. There will also be a presentation providing expert perspectives on how to get engaged in the grant review system, finding relevant solicitations, building research capacity for grant programs at new institutions, using teaching and service towards stronger proposals, and the role of mentoring.
